HI, I’M Belinda!

THE ARTIST BEHIND Burned Boundaries.

Growing up in northern Wisconsin, I was fortunate to live amongst some of the most beautiful landscapes and scenery. Surrounded by lakeshores, towering pines, and abundant wildlife, nature has always been a peaceful retreat and a strong reminder of our Creator’s power, majesty, and intention. Summer vacations were spent out west exploring America’s stunning National Parks, like Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Arches, and the Grand Canyon. Even then, I knew those memories would be ones I would carry with me for life!

Over time, these landscapes, places, and memories inspired my art and creativity. After years of admiring my mother’s creative woodburning talent and the beauty she captured through her art, I wanted to do the same! Armed with one of her old tools, I started experimenting with different styles and quickly discovered a love for creating maps of northern landscapes, national parks, and other beautiful places.

Today, that passion has grown into Burned Boundaries, where every piece is carefully sketched and woodburned by hand. Inspired by the boundaries that shape the places we love, my goal is to create meaningful artwork that celebrates your favorite places and preserves the memories connected to them. Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to learn more about my art!

Frequently Asked Questions

Woodburning (also known as pyrography) is the art of drawing with heat, using a heated pen to burn designs directly into wood. The word comes from the Greek words pyr (fire) and graphos (writing). The heated pen is applied directly to the surface of the wood. The longer the tip presses on a spot, the darker the burn becomes. With different pen tips, artists can shade, add texture, and create intricate detail.

NO! Although my work is often mistaken for laser engraving, every Burned Boundaries piece is 100% handcrafted. Each design is individually sketched and woodburned by hand. No lasers, tracing, or automated engraving are ever used.

While laser engraving offers incredible precision and consistency, I love the craftsmanship and character that comes from traditional woodburning. Because every line is burned by hand, each piece carries subtle variations that make it truly one of a kind.

NO! Every Burned Boundaries piece is individually sketched and woodburned by hand. Even when I create artwork featuring the same park, city, or landscape, I redraw each design from scratch rather than using templates or tracing. While this is a longer process, it ensures my commitment to creating 100% handcrafted art in a world of mass production!

YES! I love creating custom pieces that preserve meaningful places and memories in wood. Custom orders can include maps of national parks, hometowns, lakes, special locations, or any place that holds significance for you. To learn more about the process, timeline, and how to get started, please visit the Custom Orders page.

Outside of custom orders, my woodburned maps and artwork are available in my Etsy shop. You can browse available pieces there and see what is ready to ship.

Unlike printed artwork, each Burned Boundaries piece is individually drawn and woodburned by hand directly into the wood. There are no printers or mass reproduction methods involved; every line is created through the controlled burn of a woodburning tool. This means every piece carries natural variation, texture, and character that printed art simply cannot replicate.
